We try to avoid plugging a specific sale at a single store, which would likely be inconvenient for the vast majority of readers throughout the area. But these ridiculous prices on a pair of favorites – perfect for weathering the sweltering heat predicted we’re suffering this week – are just too good to pass up.
Just last month in “Tale of the tasting: a pair of $7 white wines shine,” the clear winner in our blind tasting of sauvignon blancs from four different countries was the New Harbor Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2011, which we bought on sale at Rodman’s on Wisconsin Ave., NW for just $6.99. It was an awesome bargain at that price, since it averages $13 a bottle nationally, and if you live or work near Friendship Heights, it’s still on sale at Rodman’s. (Actually, it’s still on sale at Rodman’s even if you don’t live or work near Friendship Heights.) But Calvert Woodley’s sale price of $5.95 a bottle is ridonkulous at less than half the national average price.
